When taking out a form of life or critical illness insurance you will need to understand that minor ailments are not covered. An insurance company may class a minor ailment differently to you. This may be something big to you but to an insurance company they are non life threatening incidents which are very common. To an insurance company minor ailment are things such as a colds, acne, cold sores, bunions, ingrowing toenails, shingles, verruca’s, wisdom teeth removal or dental work, hay fever, conjunctivitis, tonsillitis, haemorrhoids, contraception, general vaccination, infertility treatment, routine cervical smear test with normal results, ear syringing, uncomplicated pregnancies and many more. Of course every insurance company is different so their ideas of a minor ailment may be different from another insurance company. If in doubt when speaking to an advisor it is always best to check if you are unsure of if you need to disclose something or not.
